In the 30 years of process provoked known as the "nationalization" a sharp break in the local culture and left behind scars in society. The government of Getulio Vargas, concerned about the influence of Nazism in the German speaking region, banned all spectators position of the German culture. Measures for the implementation of this plan were the prohibition of the German language in schools, churches and in the audience, and the closure of the existing shooting clubs since 1890. The isolation of Pomerode resulted in a conservative society of German immigrants. Before the era of the fifties it was normal for the adults speak Portuguese. The children learned Portuguese in the school, spoke only German at home. This situation, however, had nothing to do with Nazism, because the immigrants for a long time before the second world war came and stood since that time, no longer under the cultural and political influence of the German homeland.
Today the German culture very much appreciated, expanded tourism and advertises with the slogan "Pomerode - the most German city in Brazil."
